Up-to-date information on the route is to be found on the News page (Dutch only).
The route that the AfricAlive team will follow is based on the projects that will
be visited and the dangers that can be expected during the trip. Wherever there is a
choice the safest option is always chosen.
From Delft the team will travel through Belgium, France and Spain to Gibraltar
where a boat awaits them to make the crossing towards Ceuta in Morocco.
From Ceuta the trail will lead along the westcoast of Africa through Western Sahara towards Mauritania.
Towards the border with Senegal the Sahara desert will slowly come to an end and a first taste of Savanne and rainforests awaits the team.
Once the team arrives
in senegal it is only a short leap to The Gambia where an aircraft will take the team to Sierra Leone.
In Sierra Leone the Team will visit the palmoil plantation project after which it will fly back to Banjul, The Gambia,
and the expedition will be continued by land. Through the savanna of Senegal the team travels eastwards towards Mali.
From Mali the expeditions continues southbound towards Burkina-Faso and Ghana where the Atlantic forces us to move eastbound again towards Togo and Benin.
From the Atlantic coast of Benin the Caravan draws to the north through Benin to reach Niger, the detour is made to avoid the Dangerous Niger Delta in Nigeria.
Nigeria will thus be entered from the north and the team will travel through the less densely populated north eastern Nigeria towards Cameroon.
In Cameroon the team will be awaited by a militairy convoy supported by a humanitairian organisation in Sudan
that will escort the team from cameroon through the Central African Republic (CAR).
In the most southeastern part of the CAR the Caravan will enter Sudan just passing slightly underneath the dangerous region of Darfur.
From Southern Sudan the expedition will take to Uganda where the EoN project against deforestation will be visited.
From Uganda the trail will continue through Kenya towards Tanzania and the REAL project.
From Tanzania The team will go through Mozambique and Zimbabwe to South Africa.
If the planning allows for it the team willattempt to pass by Botswana and Namibia and from thereon
southbound to Cape Town where it will enjoy a couple of days well deserved rest.
